Re: ICOM IC-A220 Radio - squelch troubles
It isn't the intercom squelch is it ? I had the same thing on my Trig radio until the penny dropped that in my noisy aeroplane the intercom was effectively on all the time - soon as I got that adjusted ( which is separate from the radio squelch ) everything quietened down to what I was expecting.

McCauley Prop Bolt Length
A quick request for help. I have a McCauley IB90CM 7048 installed on my C85-F engine on my Cessna 120. The prop bolts do not protrude from the flange by the usual number of threads we expect to see with other nuts. They are basically flush with it. I have some replacement parts on order (AN6H-32A) w...

Re: LAA Rally 2017 - Thursday arrival
For those that were planning to attend the Northern Rally trip this year - and anyone else. Please do feel free to call into Sherburn on your way to the Rally. You will be made most welcome and we will be quite happy to help with camping / hotels / etc if you want to make it an over-nighter. Landing...

Re: Documents to be carried.
I was looking at the CAA site - sort of working out what was needed / what I thought might be prudent to carry. Got to interception procedures requirement and on reading it discovered to my surprise that some of the responses require 1. Lowering undercarriage 2. Flashing Lights Now I guess the avera...

Re: Grey Aviation
Trying to find a route into a conversation at these sorts of specialist gatherings is always hard when there is nothing to "make conversation" about. It is so much easier if it is a gaggle standing around an aeroplane as a compliment never goes amiss as an opening gambit. I have lost count of the nu...

Re: Grey Aviation
Whilst my comments may seem a stock response to some they are most sincerely meant and come from a lot of experience of organising, running, and clearing up after events. I suspect that most clubs and societies have a long tail of those only to willing to take part in an event but not to do the week...

Re: Grey Aviation
I don't normally get involved with posts like this but ... It is all too easy to take a pop at somebody else for not organising the event that you want. I "do" events for Sherburn Aero Club and have lost count of the number of "What we need is...." type suggestions that are actually more accurately ...

Re: Coaching Scheme
Related but not directly to the discussions above. As a new member of the LAA aircraft owning fraternity I am to a large extent blessed with being based at an airfield with other LAA members and a very patient set of engineers and a gent of an inspector. However, there are still many "idiot" questio...

Re: Ceconite 7600 Paint
Tony that is brilliant - I have sent you a pm about the pic you sent. This is interesting information, as what I can see inside is much more like your picture of Stewart System finish. Hard to tell the original colour of the fabric as it is all stained / coated with green . On my aircraft the fabric...

Re: Ceconite 7600 Paint
Thank you chaps for your responses. I am pretty sure it isn't glue - although given it is the cut out fabric from an inspection ring of course it might be. I had reached a similar idea about inspecting the inside more closely to see if I could see blue glue which would be a give away. So far as I ca...

Ceconite 7600 Paint
I wonder if anybody can help with some expertise. According to the documentation I have my aircraft was covered in Aerofill Ceconite 7600 system procedures I.A.W. FAR 43.13. in 2008 I think. However, other than this there are no details of what paint was used etc in the log books or the documentation...

Re: ICOM Radio
Thanks all for your comments. Suffice to say that there is still mileage in the old adage of check, check and check again before purchase. It is probably worth letting folks know that CAA does sometimes ask to see the paperwork behind the radio certificate - especially when changing owners it seems....

Re: ICOM Radio
Slowly dawning on me that, to be generous, I have ended up the victim of a "mistake" that was made years ago. Of course it also makes me wonder what other "mistakes" the aircraft is suffering from. Time to ground it I fear. Doesn't stop me wondering why a radio that has clearly caused no problems fo...
