Herts/NW London Strut Jan 31 meeting all welcome
Posted: Sun Jan 06, 2008 8:55 pm
This is an invite to anybody who does not already know that a new strut exists in Hertfordshire/NW London and that we meet at Elstree Aerodrome. The next meeting is on the 31 January 2008 and if you are interested in aviation in this area please do come along and see if it is for you.
Or just come along to see what Elstree looks like at night.
Our meeting on 15 November was very successful, with 35 people, and a good talk on flying safely by David Cockburn.
Before the talk we had a fact finding session to get some idea of who we are and what we want. In summary:-
- most people came from AL, HP, and NW postal districts, with a sprinkling of others. No-one from CM or LU, which is perhaps understandable as they are so far away.
- All but 4 attendees are flyers - airfields used were:- Elstree (6), Halton (3), Nuthampstead (3), Top Farm (2), Cheddington (2), Stapleford, Panshanger, Benington, Sackville Fm, Vicarage Fm, London Colney, Ventfield Fm, Graveley, Little Gransden.
- 9 attendees are building (or soon to be building) - types are:- Falco, RV7, RV9A, Jabiru J400, Zenair 601, Menestrel, Europa XS, Sportcruiser, Pietenpol.
- Elstree would seem to be a good venue, judging by the turnout and other feedback. Other venues can also be considered.
- Meeting topics that people are interested in are:- owner maintenance, touring (incl preparations), fly-ins, visits, building reports and discussions, navigation, lending club, safety, legislation, mode S, vintage A/C, weather, groups, performance A/C, ATC, Austers, flying! Those should give us some ideas for the next decade or two!
Future Meetings - we agreed that we would meet every 2 months, on the last Thursday of the month, 7.30pm, at Elstree, starting with 31st January. Fly-ins etc would be in addition. We hope to arrange a fly-in at Elstree this summer.
31st January (put date in your diary now!) Roger Hopkinson (Chairman of the LAA) will talk to us, and there will be ample opportunity for you to ask questions or voice concerns.
Best Wishes,
Kelvin Denize. Send me a email [email protected] so we can get a quick chat in if it is possible,
Hope to some of you there, especially other struts we can work with over the summer months for shared flyinns and other activities.
