2010 fly ins

Post by J.C. » Wed Oct 07, 2009 9:01 am

The BB fly-ins where a bit of a mixed bag this year, I think most will agree that a couple were really good and some ( the most ambitious ones ) were a complete flop.

I would still be up for repeating the excercise for next year.. so what do people think ?

Would anyone be interested in a season end fly in at Tibenham in November ?

Would you rather that I organise a regular once a month event at Tibenham so there is always some where to go and meet old faces ?

Don't be shy!

J.C. I really enjoyed the last Tibenham day, so would always be happy to come again, weather and syndicate availability permitting...
PS: please stop buying the aircraft I am after...Jodel, Moni - just can't keep up :D

Hi JC,

I think it would be a good idea to try a few more next year, or even later this year, particularly in off season, but then we have to be prepared that at least half will be rained out!

Scakville and Little Rissington would be popular with me. Maybe a northern one at somewhere like Breighton. As well of course as one at Tibenham.
Personally I wouldnt want one every month at Tibenham, Id rather go to different places, or if it was somewhere every month it would need to be somewhere like Popham where there are always lots of interesting visiting aircraft and things going on (but Popham already has enough fly-ins!)
Dont clash with other fly-ins, there are already too many small events on the same day quite a few weekends, then you get other weekends with nothing. Perhaps the BB fly-ins could tag onto other fly-ins already happening in some cases.

Another way to do it might be like the Devon strut "scrambles" where a few days before the weekend, if the forecast is good a message is sent out to all on the list giving this Saturday or Sundays "scramble". Means doing it at the last minute though.

Remember there are already fly-ins at Old Sarum first sunday of the month over the winter, we could support one of those (and not clash with others)

Also VAC fly-in dates
Sat 23 Jan Turweston
Sun 14 FEb tbd
Sun 28 March Turweston
Sat 17 Apr Fenland

Tibenham in November? Why not! Except the only day for me would be Sunday 15th Working or on holiday other weekends!

Nov 1 is Old Sarum and 28/29 SPLASH or whatever its called now at the NEC.

thanks for taking on the task!

Ok Nigel..just for you!
Sunday 15th November, Season closer for this year. Not a full blown fly-in but a get together at Tibenham for all BBer's.
Good news ...Cafe will be open, breakfasts bacon butties etc .
bad news...normal landing fee £6 - waved if you buy fuel.
All welcome ..see you there weather permitting! :D

How about a bit of “joined up thinking”? Brian negotiates free landing fees at airfields and publishes them in the mag. If we coordinated with him he would have more to negotiate with and we would save on the landing fee.

Defiantly think it is worth carrying on with the BB flyins.

Happy new year to you John, and to all BBers. I didn't get to as many BB events as I would have liked last year so will make more of an effort this time around. Be good to kick off with an early event at Tibenham.

How about Gamston? It has a new café and is supposed to be encouraging visitors.

Gamston's good for me too. Then again so is anywhere within a couple of hours of EGNU.

One thing that I would like to try this year is to promote a swap system for people that would like to try new or different types.
This would entail giving a ride in your aircraft in return for a ride in that person's aircraft .
The simplest way would be to display a letter T in the windscreen as you arrive to denote that you are up for the Type swap.
You could them be marshalled to one side of the parking area making it easy for pilots in the scheme to walk around and see what's on offer so as to speak. The card could carry the pilots mobile no . to facilitate contact.
Feed back appreciated.

Hope to make Tibenham again John. Enjoyed the last trip over. The swap system sounds like an excellent idea too. If anything gets planned for Oxfordshire/Costwolds (eg Little Riss) I'd be happy to help out.

BB fly ins are definitely a good idea. I'll be around as soon as the ground state allows.
Does seem to be raining alot lately!
