Letterkenny, N-W Ireland, Fly-in/BBQ/Music & Dancing !

** EVENT CANCELLED **
Letterkenny flying club, situated in Donegal in NW Ireland will hold its annual Fly-in, BBQ & Hooley in the hangar on Sat/Sun 26 & 27th June 2010. Back for the 5th year, Flying/Food/Music/dancing & fun, all rolled into one ! Be part of it and make it even bigger than last year. Please visit the LFC website HERE for further info.

Camping is available on site free of charge & cooking and toilet/shower facilities are available in the clubhouse. If you e-mail us at [email protected] or call 0035387 2547730 we will forward you contact details for B&B accommodation local to the field should you wish to avail of this. Many Guesthouses & hotels are local to the airfield. The major town of Letterkenny is a taxi ride away, less than 10 minutes from the field if you want to go there. Mogas available locally, but bring your own 2 stroke oil if you fly a 2 stroke, we will have jerry cans on site for your use & we will get you to & from the local filling station. It is also important that you bring tie-downs to secure your aircraft as all parking will be on grass.

The cost of the overnight event is €15(euro) per person, this includes food at the BBQ, a full bar service will be available on the night, and excellent music will also be provided by our resident Pilot & musician, Hugh McLean , this should go on to the wee small hours ! .. all in all we can say that we will have an excellent night. We would really like as many UK crews to come across to Ireland for the event, it is a very simple crossing from the UK and we are only about 1:30 minutes west of Belfast in the average microlight / plane. You all will be made most welcome. Full airfield details are on the Letterkenny Flying Club website inc plate, airfield pictures and instructions, see HERE. Donegal is one of the most beautiful areas in Europe, come along and spend a while with us.

Please call the Airfield 10 minutes/10 mile out on 129.55 for runway and parking information. Aircraft parking will be to the south of the hangers in a large prepared grass area where you are welcome to pitch your tent beside your aircraft.
** EVENT CANCELLED **

All the Fly-in's and events scheduled to happen at Letterkenny flying club for 2010 are cancelled. There will be no charity event for the Donegal Hospice over St.Patrick's day as planned, neither will there be our annual fly-in that was scheduled for June. I do not know if other clubs/airfields will follow suit.
The IAA have stated that they intend to prosecute visiting pilots on the UK NPPL licence, we cannot be seen to be encouraging UK visitors that will have the book thrown at them, therefore this regrettable decision has been made.

Not all of us have a NPPL, I have a JAA so I am permitted to fly to Ireland although I do understand that not having NPPL would reduce the numbers somewhat.

What a shame the IAA is being so strict and what a shame for the goodwill and the local charities that would benefit especially in these tough times.

Still, rules are made never to be broken regardless of time, place or reason.
