8.33 on second VHF box?

Post by 2greens1red » Sun Sep 29, 2013 8:57 pm

I've lost the relevant document, but will it be possible to install non-8.33 kit on a permit a/c as a backup VHF comm? I think it was some date in November '13 for a new installation, but can't remember if a 2nd box was OK as backup.

Short answer - no. It doesn't work that way and once an area is dedicated to 8.33 you can't use a 25 box. See John Brady's excellent article in the mag a few months back.

Many thanks - I'll take a look at the article.

I think our neatest solution is a portable transceiver using a simple 'automatic' antenna switchbox (just arrived, from the US, and haven't had a chance to examine).
