'Hard' rubber washers

Post by TaylorMono12 » Fri Jan 17, 2025 5:50 pm

In the Peacock conversion manual for the VW engines, it recommends the use of hard 'superbike-type' rubber washers between the engine mounts and the firewall bulkhead, to accommodate the natural swelling / contraction of the wood over time.

Having rebuilt the engine with my inspector - and refitting it - the rubber washers I've used seem to compress too easily and are 'squidging' out the sides of the mount. E.g. they are too soft and aren't going to provide much support.

Where can I source appropriately robust rubber washers for the job? Every search I do online, eBay etc all just seems to come back with neoprene which is too soft. Searching for 'hard rubber washers' is a pretty fruitless task.

Any ideas of which rubber washers to use? Should I be looking at polyurethane, viton etc?
