Sopwith Pup

Post by Jim McTaggart » Thu Feb 26, 2009 11:43 am

I have started the construction of a Sopwith Pup from Sopwith plans.
I would like to get in touch with other builders and also to contact operators of the Rotec R3600.

Jim you are very lucky to have a set of plans. I believe BAe no longer allow them to be sold due to liability problems. I helped on the Shuttleworth Pup when we took some of the Sopwith Snipe parts (tail unit) off he aircraft and made new Pup parts. It is most intersting that no drawings have the title Sopwith Pup on them except the three view which was redrawn long after the first world war.

An official statement was issued during WW1 that the Sopwith Scout should not be refered to as the Sopwith Pup. This official rebuke guaranteed that it would forever be called the Pup!!

Good luck

Hello Stuart.
The drawings are available from Jim Kiger in the US, he has produced a set of drawings from the original Sopwith ones which he sells for $150 and for another $50 or so he'll do a copy of the Sopwith stuff as well.
Cheers.

Keep quiet BAe will not be amused. Copyright should now be out of validity.

I look forward, to hearing about your project as it progresses.

PS So will Brian Hope and Nigel Hitchman.
