Rand KR-1

To get a true perspective on the KR1 look at http://www.krnet.org/index.html for the relative numbers of KR1 vs KR2 that are listed by Mark Langford in America. I'm sure the original performance specs were unrealistic and I doubt you'd get approval from LAA Engineering if you wanted to rely on KR1 flying time & experience from the USA.

He did not say it wouldn't get approval. If you are willing to undertake the stress testing and/or analysis then you could possibly get approval. I would be supprised if some modification was not required as the US experimantal class is not as stringent as CS-VLA.I doubt you'd get approval from LAA Engineering if you wanted to rely on KR1 flying time & experience from the USA

<So is there a particular reason why the KR-1 isn't permittable?>
Ken Rand was only 5ft 4in tall. That might have something to do with why no one in the UK has started the approval process. And by the time the KR2 was developed, those builders who were interested, realised that the -2 was only a little extra work.

5ft4!!!... oh dear, from the pictures I've seen he doesn't have at least 4 inches of headroom (except for the open cockpit version
) Maybe I will investigate another design, waiting on a response from FD first though.
Thanks for everyones help, Matt.

If you want a good single seater with a vw engine and you want a canopy and not a biplane then look at the following:
Corby Starlet http://www.laa-archive.org.uk/photo/1000874/
Taylor Monoplane

Brugger Colibri http://www.laa-archive.org.uk/photo/1001201/
Nicolier Menestrel I not appproved but some flying in France so might qualify to be accepted by LAA
