Firewall insulation adhesive

Post by Graeme Bird » Mon Feb 25, 2008 9:20 pm

Hi all, newby here

I am following the mod to convert a C42 to a VLA involving adding Fibrefrax to the firewall supplied by aircraft spruce. However they cant ship the adhesive over due to transort regs, has anyone found anything suitable?
The stuff is like thick paper or cotton but made of ceramic fibres I think.

Anyone else done the conversion?

Graeme

Do you need adhesive at all? I'm planning to use the same stuff on my monoplane and I'm simply intending for the ali firewall to sandwich it in place. As far as I can see, the adhesive adds nothing but weight.

What about a few dabs of silicone RTV? It sticks suprisingly well to most things and will tolerate pretty high temperatures?
