Anyone know of a good product for insulation purposes, such as what one may put inside door panels etc? I have heard that Rockwool is a no no as it retains moisture if it ever gets wet. Upholstery foam (or similar) is probably a bit heavy.

What about the thin stuff used under laminate flooring? Foam with a layer of silver heat reflecting tape.

The way that the BN islanders and others were insulated for heat loss, not noise, was to use ordinary fibreglass rolls about two inches or so thick sealed into plastic sheets sealed around the edge to match the panel shapes. You could use polythene sheet if only you could weld the edges. Work along those ideas, it is only to keep the condensation from the wool, otherwise a mysterious weight gain appears over time.

Armaflex available at good HVAC specialists in sheets 0.5x2m, or rolls 1m wide, lenght liked to thickness, called "continous sheet". If I remeber well, density is around 140 Kg/ M3.

What about something like Depron foam? Not sure of its fire rating or any gases produced if it burns, but it's very light, can be obtained in various thicknesses and is used in drylining systems, as well as making model aircraft.
