Aeronca Champ & C90

Post by Jodel1 » Wed Jun 23, 2010 7:56 am

Can somebody give me the valve lift figures for the C90-14F engine. I have suspicions my camshaft is worn?
While I'm at it I would like to know the correct propeller and what others are using on their C90 Champs.

Worth getting hold of a 'proper' version of the manual to be sure but this version http://www.pj260.com/Continental/O-200%20Manual.pdf, gives a valve lift of 0.41" Most of the other values seem to be the ones I used when I had one!

Cann't help with the prop issue I'm afraid.

Check the prop list on LAA Engineering for suitable sizes, however my personal preference has been the McCauley Met-L prop. Leagues ahead of a wooden Sensennich, slightly better than a Lodge. Had 2 Champs with 65 and 85hp.

PM me for valve info - I have an overhaul manual at home but won't be back until the weekend.

We put a Mc Cauley 71-44 on the Champ last week and wow what a difference.
I am hugely relieved as I thought we were in camshaft trouble.
The 71-44 is just a bit fine so the search is on for a Mc Cauley 71-46.
Has anybody got one in very good condition and with papers.
