VHF Radio Aerial Screening

Post by Gavin Bell » Thu Aug 12, 2010 8:11 pm

Hi Guys,

On Jodel there is an annoying radio interference through the headsets when the strobes or nav lights are turned on. One of the strobes is forward of the aerial by about 10" and it looks as if the wiring is run alongside each other. So that maybe explains the strobes, but what about the nav lights?
What should I be looking for in terms of aerial screening?

Thanks

Wouldn't expect radio interference from your nav lights unless they are the flashing variety as well.

Very little you can do about screening your VHF antenna cable but you should route the antenna cable as far away as possible from your strobe cabling (or vice versa). Also, using screened cable for your strobe wiring should help.

It could be worth trying some clip on ferite rings (obtainable from Maplin) on the light/strobe feed. It should take out some of the RF pickup
