Hello all,

Viewed an RV7 today that's for sale. It has a Hartzell CS prop that is 6 years old. I thought that CS props had to be overhauled at 6 years, is this still mandatory on a permit aircraft? The seller says it only requires a corrosion inspection. Any advice very much appreciated.

What does your inspector say? It is up to you and him to agree an appropriate schedule with due regard to manufacturers recommendations.

Hi ROD,

So the 6 year inspection is not mandatory? Does that just apply to C of A aircraft?

Kind regards,

Mona

No idea, I do not run a C of A aircraft. Do not celebrate yet; your inspector may want 3 years…

A CS prop can either be maintained under Notice 75, or under the manufacturers schedule.

Choose one and continue.

In your case, if it has not had a Notice 75 at 3 years, it will be subject to the manufacturers schedule. If that is 6 years, then - yep, it needs an overhaul.

Check with CFS at Coventry - they are very good.

Hi Yes an overhaul is due at 6yrs, the same rules apply to a permit aircraft with a CSU prop (hartzel) I have mine done at MCA Shoreham airport.
