adding Slick magnetos to VW

I have just returned my VW to Ardem standard with two chain driven Lucas SR4 magnetos. However the engine is proving a little difficult to start due to the fixed timing. I would like information on replacing the Lucas mags with Slick type mags fitted with impulse couplings to overcome the starting problem. I believe this is an approved LAA modification.
Can anyone help with information and experience of this system please.
