Clevis Pins

Post by John Austin » Fri Nov 19, 2010 7:45 pm

My Tipsy Nipper has just been through its permit and has had an 'advisery' to ream/drill out the control surface hinges and replace the 3/16" dia clevis pins with 5mm dia pins. Does anybody know where I might source some 5mm pins of an equivalent material to the originals? I've tried to look up the reference given in the Mk2 Owners manual (i.e. SP/4Z/B14-0 3/16") but I've drawn a blank.

Rather than ream out to the metric size, I'd recommend the SP4Y, Cadmium plated pins instead.

Agreed - I have play in a Nipper which was picked up at Permit a little while ago. My inspector has instructed me to ream out to accept 7/32" SP4Y pins from LAS Aero.
Be aware that you'll need a narrow headed drill if you intend to ream in-situ as the hinges are very close to the wing and a conventional chuck will not allow you to drill parallel holes!

Thanks for all your advice, I'll give SP4Y pins a go when the weather warms up a bit and I can get to the airfield!
