VW Engine case replacements
Hi there
sadly I have just found out that my Colibri's VW engine has a big crack at the rear of the casing and will have to be replaced. I know that GPAC sell VW engine cases. However, being quite 'green' on the engineering side (i mean inexperienced), I wonder if there are any other decent sources of a new case in Europe where the shipping costs would not be so great.
If anyone can recommend a source of a VW engine I would appreciate it. I am looking to do as little remachineing as possible as this is not my thing. I have a 1834 cc engine so the cylinder barrels will have to be altered if its a stock 1600cc.
Or if anyone has a spare engine for sale out there?
All help much appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks everyone for your pointers. Also found a place called www.machine7.com which seem good value and do the magnesium cases which sound best.

BTW there is a VW derived engine in development in Brazil. called the Motorav, and has Igniflex electronic ignition.
There is a CX4 flying down there with a prototype engine, and I understand they exhibited at AirVenture
The only description I can find is that the head fins are enlarged.
There are several YouTube clips of the CX4, but none show the engine. The Igniflex site is all Brazillian, though a Spanish speaker should be able to read that, or just Google translate.

There's a picture of some of the Brazilian RIMA aero VW engine parts on page 22 of the May issue of the mag. The engine was at Sun n Fun. Heavily finned single heads and strengthened cases tackle some of the inherant weaknesses in the high power VW conversions. No prices were available at the time but it was said that they would be comparable with other VW conversions on the market.
