Is it possible / allowed to regrind and re-harden a camshaft. If so can anyone recommend a company that could assist me.

I would not have thought so Mark as you will alter the performance of the engine.

IIRC it is possible to reprofile cams, but that is with the intention of changing the performance. Unless you have cams with a higher lift than you should have, you cannot remove material to get the correct profile (therfore valve opening). Reprofiling on an existing cam will most likely detune the engine.

You can regrind and have the same profile , only the base circle dimension is smaller IE the lobe in total will be smaller by a fraction but the opening and closing timing , valve acceleration and total lift will be the same . Only snag comes f the engine has hydraulic lifters , then the reduced BCD makes achieving the correct pre long on the tappet impossible but with adjustable tappets you would just close the clearance up with the adjusting screw .

I worked for 3 years at Kent Cams in Folkestone.
I am sure the cost of a new cam would be worth it in balance with the risks involved.

Thanks Kevin, After I posted, I realised the same as what you have posted must be true.
