I know it's early days, but has there been any progress on setting up these suggested maintenace/building cources?

We have a venue and an engineer agreed in principle, for a permit orientated course. Various details need to be established before we can publicise a date, but I hope we can do that shortly.

The course centred on a College which we are hoping will be able to provide a form of certification is awaiting a promised EASA document. I've not had information on when that will be available, but as soon as it is, we can start moving on that.

Since SSDR is with us, and as a means of progression to deregulation of ALL single seat aircraft, how do you think the CAA would look upon the qualification of an owner/pilot through unique to type LAA courses to repermit his own aircraft. The standard application paperwork to be still processed via the LAA. If the owner were to sell on his aircraft, then the normal and existing route would apply.

I don't know how to answer that, Bill. I'm just trying to set up some courses for pilots to get some expert help in how to look after their aircraft.

Since the CAA isn't even receptive to initial PPL training at non-licensed airfields, I doubt they would extend the maintenance envelope that much, and I can't see certain European countries wanting more freedom for owner maintenance.


The maintenance that can be undertaken and signed-off by a pilot/owner is broadly the same for both permit and CofA types. Work beyond that must be supervised and signed off by the LAA inspector or the LAE / maintenance organisation who have the responsibility for ensuring it has been done properly.

Just signed up for the Engine maintenance course. Looking in LA the range of courses looks very good.
