Canopy glass tint

Post by Hardini » Sat Aug 30, 2014 2:05 pm

I have been reading about the problems of UVA coming through the canopy and there are aviation companies in the States that talk about tinting as a way of reducing this. Here in the UK car companies that tint windows also talk about the benefits of UV reduction. As my RV4 is limited to day flying anyway I wondered if there are any regulations covering tinting for permit aircraft. Is it allowed, is it a mod and are there suppliers out there that can do it? Anyone else come across this?

When I built my Europa it had a supplied brown tinted set of windows. I didn't use these and chose a light grey as I had heard the brown reduced visibility at dusk and poor light conditions.
My grey tinted were supplied by LP Aero. http://www.lpaero.com
They have information on tinting at http://www.lpaero.com/stcpdf/RebatePressRelease.pdf.
BTW> The light grey tint was good for visibility at all times.
