Nikasil VW barrels?

Post by ivanmanley » Sat Nov 08, 2014 9:14 am

Anyone know if they are ok for LAA aircraft use?

I know they are fitted to Aerovee and others, but what about retro fitting on non "manufactured" aero conversions? I've just noticed a source on Ebay for 1835 size ones and they represent a 10 lb weight saving and better cooling?

My understanding is that Nikasil cylinders are no longer available for the Aerovee from Aeroconversions (Sonex)

I would do some weight and balance calcs before buying the nikasil barrels.
I'd hate to see all that money and effort spent only to have to put a lump of lead up front to bring the c of g forward again!
Would make for a nicely elegant motor all the same!
