Becker Radio AR4201

Post by D M Johnstone » Sat Mar 12, 2016 3:01 pm

Our very reliable Becker Radio has suddenly developed a fault.
Reception is perfect, intercom also perfect, but transmission has suddenly gone from strength 5 to 1
Have tried both P1 & P2 and different headsets but no change.
You can hear the relay click when pushing the PTT also the flag shows on the radio indicating that it is transmitting.
Any Radio experts out there ?

Try Dickie Feakes here: http://bas.uk.net/index.html. Although the site's about gliders, I believe he used to work for/on Becker radios and he's replaced the internal Li battery on my AR3201 in the past. Very helpful chap.

LXAvionics may also be able to help with Becker radio issues.

Their ad in in the latest LAA magazine.

Before going too far just check the aerial contacts are good power for transmit is quite high, receiving is not, it might just be connector not touching the core properly.

Thanks for your advice, checked the aerial contact which was good and the signal strength was also normal, however no modulation.
Ended up getting the new Becker with 8.33 which we were planning to do next year, plugged it in and it worked perfectly.
Air test last Monday and perfect at 10 miles & 20 miles plus a quiche chat with London Center on 121.500.

Luckily we are a syndicate of 6 and Mendelssohn honoured the price in the LAA Mag which was £120 less than their on line price.
