Any one made a flap device to control air going to sump, I normally stick duck tape over the hole in winter to try and raise temperature. Any ideas. Mike

Give us a clue!
What kind of engine are we talking about here? Lycosaur? Bontinental? Slotax? VolksDragon? Something else?
I've seen some Rotax installations with either manual or 'automatic' flaps over their oil coolers...
How about letting us know what kind of aircraft you have, too?

Hi Rob Jabiru powered Menestrel. Want to create a flap system for cowling rather than Duck Tape.
Before I start thought I would sound out the site. Mike

Is there a way to fit a thermostat in the system? So when cold the oil bypasses the rad.

I visited the Camit stand at the LAA rally and they have the thermostatic by-pass fitment. The company seem to have got on top of many of the "problems" associated with Jab engines. All major components are roughly half the price of the Jab equivalents.

Thermostat sounds like a good call.
Bit like the Vernatherm valve in the small Lycomings.

Fit a TOCA (thermostatic oil control apparatus) makes warm up quicker and keeps the oil where it is needed. I got mine for our Jabiru from Steve Rance, works a treat.

Duck tape went on then it warmed up so cut a hole in it now its gone cold.

Be careful with that 'duck' tape, it might conceal quacks.

Amusing how 'duct tape' over the years has been transformed into 'duck tape'.

Careful this may degenerate into a Flyer forum

Wouldn't want the duck tape
to fowl anything
Anyhow put tape back over hole, cold and windy today

FWIW.
If the cooler is a simple rectangular matrix (like both my Rans and motor-bike) then permanently put on, say three, zip ties vertically and spaced along the cooler.
Cut piece of rectangular plastic to slide in sideways (the flat side of an oil container works well). You can remove it in Summer and slide it back on again when the wx turns cold.
In fact I start with it slid only part way across and that way can easily add adjust more or less at the first landing. Ditto m/c.

Oil cooler not the issue will fit TOCA, its the big hole in front of cowling. This needs a flap of some sort
which I must create. On the Mono I have two 1/2" x 3" slots which drop the temperature by 15-20' which I tape over during the winter, but then that's a VW.
