Webster Whirlwind ignition system

Post by cardiffrob » Thu Aug 21, 2008 8:55 am

I was flicking through some pics and saw the 7-cyl Whirlwind with the 2 Lucas distributors with 7 brass rivets drilled into the caps. I was wondering if anyone knew how Ron managed to get 7 triggerings from the points. 7 lobes machined onto the distributor shaft or something else?

There is a 'beer bet' on the outcome of this quest for info!

Rob, I had a word with Ron at the meeting and asked him your question.
In his usual understated way, he said their are 7 lobe cams in the (Bosch based) distributors, but he had to make them himself!!
