IIRC on a previous aircraft with a Continental O200 we used an automotive oil filter, we are now operating with a Lycoming O360 and was looking for any advice on doing the same here?

Afternoon Ian,
It was probably a Fram HP-1 , which has the same threaded section as a Champion 48108. Unfortunately , it's about the same price as the Champion item as well , so you don't really save anything. Also, the Fram filter doesn't have the inbuilt lugs on the end for wire-locking .
Might make your Inspector wince slightly too. There has been a bit of unfortunate history in the past with automotive oil filters , but I believe that was mostly amongst the Rotax brethren . [

Thanks but since found out that this will not be applicable on our engine anyway, thought I had deleted this but it appears not.

The K&N HP-1002 filter fits the ~108 Champion adapters. It is a smaller diameter and has all the safety features of the certified aviation versions.
I have been using it on an O-320 for the last 3+ years with no issues.

Mark. Cheers for that mate.
As ever , I'm sure that in your neck of the woods they are cheaper anyway. But hey-ho,,,I'm off out there tomorrow.

Mark,,,,,,,thanks for that little tip mate !
K&N HP-1002,,,,,,13 Bucks in Wal-Mart 'Auto Center' , even with the cr@p exchange rate , it's still half the price of the filter I had been using and fitted perfectly into my cabin baggage.
Also have to confess my ignorance here , whilst I knew about K&N air filters , I had no idea that they made oil filters too.....
