Panel switch labeling

Post by AlanR » Mon Aug 25, 2008 8:48 pm

Hi,
I am looking to label the switches on a panel. There seem to be a confusing number of various labelmakers around but I am unsure which is the best or what are the alternatives.
I was wondering what method have others have used and what can you recommend/suggest?.

http://www.dymo-store.co.uk/index.php/cPath/59

Use this for heat shrink labels for wire as well as panel labels.

Clear backgrounds are available.

Yes thanks Mike, but which model Dymo...The Rhino Pro 5000? or 3000?
Its seems expensive but is this what everyone is using?
Are there alternatives that anyone has had experience of?

Alan, I've got a Dymo (can't remember exactly which model): happy either to lend it or do the labelling if you get the tape. Drop me a mail if this helps.

Tesco did a 'laminator' for about £12. I printed labels out at home and then laminated and cut them out. Looks miles better than a dymo, IMHO.

Thanks for all the input and advice guys, and thanks especially to Nick for the kind loan offer...much appreciated, however I have just bitten the bullet and bought a Dymo.
Yes its a a bit pricey but as Mike pointed out I can use for wire labeling as well.

Another option, instead of Dymo - which looks like it came from, well, a Dymo ;-) how about this suggestionfrom an RV builder - the finished result looks like screen printing, and is said to be wear resistant.

Here's another method, via the EAA.

If you know what you will do on your panel for sure - we planned ours using Experimental Air and had it water jet cut. After that we painted it and had all the markings screen printed - very happy and it cost us about £40.
