Does anyone here use a Tanis or REIFF type pre-heater on their Rotax 912ul or 912uls? I'm wondering if it would be good for the engine while also reducing warm-up time in the depths of Winter.

Hi,
Unless you anticipate operating in serious sub zero temperatures then this may be a better bet.

It's simple to add and probably just a sign off by your inspector as opposed to a mod by the LAA.
John.
I've just looked it up and it is a standard Rotax mod so your inspector can sign it off. Full details are on the LAA web page of standard mods.

Not as such, but when ambient temperatures are in single figures (Centigrade) I prestart heat with a hair drier directed into the cowling for about 20 minutes. This primarily facilitates cold starting, and provides a small reduction in warm-up time.
Tanis can do more harm than good if the heaters are not very carefully placed.
