Rotax 912 running ruff during mag drop....?

Post by martyntaylor » Sat Jun 02, 2018 6:35 pm

Hello people

I have a rans s6 at little gransden near Cambridge which runs ruff during a mag drop which leads me to think I have an ignition problem on one of the spark plug. Which could be the ignition packs or the coils.

How do I go about getting this diagnosed and repaired

Thanks martyn

Dough sparking plug? Cheap and easy to eliminate. Then move on to other sources if that doesn't fix it.

Then try the spark plug cap, then the HT lead connections at either end. Sometimes they work loose.

Then go for carb balance and idle.

These are all easy to do prior to getting on to the complex stuff.

At what RPM are you doing the mag check ?

If at 4000 then , like some has said go for a plug but more like a plug cap as the resistor inside cracks, test by removing the cap and checking with a meter anything over 5.2K ohm and its a bin job.

cheers
