Hi
does anyone know how the LAA look at using the seat base of a home build as a fuel tank?

Anthony,

Doesn't seem particularly a good idea but a question for LAA Engineering.....

Bob.
Worth asking LAA Engineering of course.
On a practical note. I was involved in a crash where my vertical speed at impact was enough to tear off U/C completely but also distorted my seat frame and seat base considerably. At 90 kg personal weight I'm sure the deceleration on impact would have significantly multiplied that weight and even a metal fuel tank would have distorted, plastic would split.
I had the Fuel Tank over my knees and that area distorted causing major leakage as the FWF connection to Gascolator ruptured causing fast fuel loss to tank.
Nobody wants an unplanned hard arrival with the ground but some safety has to be considered. IMHO.
