Looking to chat with anyone who has built a single seater Acro Sport 1. I want to have a go at building one

Good evening Martin,
I helped an American friend who built one some years ago and offer the following observations:

A major part of the work is welding steel tubes with many cluster joints. You would therefore need to satisfy LAA Engineering that you had the requisite welding skills.

The wings are mostly wood with plank spars and lattice ribs, so there's also a considerable amount of wood working.

Then you need to master fabric covering skills, including rib stitching.

Thanks for that Harry, I have a CAA welder ready to go for the frame etc and other people to help and guide with the contruction, my problem is that I am unable to find a source for the plans to get started. the address given by aircraft spruce is out of date and a new person has the rights but has dissapeared off the face of the earth.

Martin, I believe the plans are sold by the Experimental Aircraft Association - the American equivalent to LAA.

Hi Martin, Harry is right, the EAA sells the plans and Jean Kinnaman is the contact, he or she is the same person to contact for Pober Pixie and other EAA designs. Why not try phoning rather than writing a letter?

I have a friend who has the fuselage already welded up for a Acro Sport I, and is willing to sell all the parts he has. There is an Acro Sport II, which is two place so would need to know which one he would be interested in building and if interested in what my friend has. I have seen it and it is in top notch condition and the work that has been done is very very good. Also comes with the plans.

Just spoke to Chris Kinnaman on the number listed for Jean Kinnamon on the EAA site, he says there will definately be a website soon, he has the name of the site ready to go, says he is dealing with estate issues involving lawyers etc, he also said that he is at Hales Corners at the moment but the plans are 1000 miles away, he didn't say where, but he thinks it wont be too long before the site is up and ready to go as soon as he has the estate business concluded. So hopefully not too long, plans will be $125 plus shipping

Apparently in the post as we chat, either lost £90 or they will be here sometime soon, from the states , someone bought the plans but didn't start the build, just have to wait and see what happens, by air 7 to 10 days, by boat, 7 - 9 weeks lol
