I'm going to fit a TAF-L oil filter and it mentions de-soldering the original oil screen from the oil screen cap. Anyone done this? Advice? Is it soft or silver soldered? I don't want to use more heat than I need to.

Yes....very easy . I used a small propane gas torch and after gently heating around the join it comes away without a struggle.
