Does anyone know if the above aircraft is likely to be approved by the LAA? Its a new type (although it has its origins in the Raven) and can take up to 180hp engines eg Titan/UL. Its an attractive design and is stressed to +6/-2 (+9/-4 ultimate) thanks to an innovative and strong 2 spar arrangement (the front one being the L/E D-section!).

A quick phone call or e-mail to the LAA engineering team is likely to provide the answer.

The issue is not so much whether the LAA approve it, but is there someone willing to take it through approval. If RANS has the design data and is willing to supply to the LAA the path will be much easier (and cheaper)

Have a chat with the LAA Engineering team as consider whether you are willing to be the first builder in the UK. It's a fairly traditional design, so shouldn't have too many surprises.

Hi Chris, Skycraft is the UK agent for Rans so it might be worth talking to Dave Almey about the possibility of putting the design through LAA approval, though to date the company has not progressed new Rans designs.
Although, as Ian says, it is a fairly traditional design it is something of a departure from Rans' typical approach. While it has a steel tube cabin 'cage' the aircraft is an aluminium structure rather than the usual tube and fabric construction (they did make a nice side-by-side aluminium two seater, the S19, but although Skycraft brought a kit into the country it was never approved or flown here).

So is the Rans S6 series, all the fuselage from behind the seat backis all Ali tube and pop rivets. Mine's still going strong after 20 years from original build.
