Lubricating BTH Magneto?

Post by LSHAvenger18 » Mon May 06, 2019 5:12 pm

Hi,

we are just about to lubricate the impulse mag with "5cc of colloidal graphite"!
This is engine oil mixed with graphite and is done every 50 hrs.
Engine is Gipsy Major.

Just asking all you experienced operators out there if this sounds about right please?

Any other tips much appreciated.

Thanks,

Simon

On the advice of Tony Stairs (very experienced magneto specialist), do NOT do this.
It could cause more problems than it solves.
Based on old information that may no longer be best practice.

We use aerosol can with long fine nozzle and inject a very small quantity of commercial auto spray grease. It seems to work fine and our magneto man is happy with that. We do it once every two years or so (about 60 -70 flying hours).
