Inspector Locations

Post by Pete » Fri Jan 18, 2008 6:33 pm

I have done an improved map, it is at http://www.heroic.co.uk/inspectors.html

Now if only NATs were to publish the Notams in a easy to read form...

Well done Pete, but I noticed my Inspector has been missed off this new map - Dave Allen at Rufforth (I see Bob McLean is there).

No map visible for me, but I can highlight a blue panel below the text information.

Could be the missing '>' from line 8 of the code:

..."text/javascript"></script>

Edit: The map shows on Webkit and Mozilla browsers - not on the versions of Opera and Explorer I have - could well be that that missing closing tag is upsetting them.

The location inaccuracy is down to the Post Office.

They charge £200 for the use of postcode info, so I have resorted to an old list of partial post codes like AL40 ( where I live ). This list gives the map ref of the centre of that postal area, as each postal area is approx 2km across, there is an inevitable error. I guess in rural areas postal ares are even larger.

The Inspectors Map is now available on the LAA website under "Engineering". If you find any inspectors that are missing, please let Ken Craigie know.

Nope ... maybe it's me? The google map only shows about a dozen inspectors dotted around PFA HQ. Last week it showed loads all over the country, but not now? If I type in the first two letters of my postcode it does come up with a list (but it's out of date). However, it's pretty narrow, whereas the google map last week was good as it showed all in the area. I can't understand why it won't work for me now if it's working ok for you?

Ivan,

Silly question maybe, but have you tried putting in all the first part of your postcode - ie not just TN but TN2 for example.

That works for me.

The map defaults to a 50km radius around Turdy with a limit of 50 inspectors. It may be slow to display the whole country by default, hence the limits, which can be changed as John has indicated above.

If would have been helpful if it was clear that a filter had been applied and shown the postcode for Turdy in the same way as it shows the radius and max. Not a big deal though.

It would have been nice if some codes could be included in the flyout detail to indicate scope of inspectors rather than having to click on the name, or different symbols?

Cheers
Ian
