Availability of Aerowave 2001
Has anyone had any issues recently with purchasing Aerowave2001 primer?
I am part way through my build of a Sling2 taildragger and need more primer plus what little I have left is about to come to the end of its shelf life. I don't want to have to change primers half way through the build.
I have tried both UK suppliers Silmid and Pexar and both are reluctant to sell this product to private users even though it is for legitimate end usage (aircraft construction). It appears this is due to the new EU REACH regulations which came into full force at the start of this year.
Any suggestions?

Don't bother....
Swap to Tetrosyl Etch Prime and save yourself a whole chunk of money for an equally good product.
If you want something with an aeroplane name on it, the 2 part - not 2 pack product that LAS sells is the same (Tetrosyl said so )

I think Mike has a point .
Acquiring aircraft paints is a jungle , especially primers . Not made any easier by the fact that the large paint manufacturers all have their specific approval codes tied in with the aircraft manufacturer’s certification process . The unfortunate upshot of all this is , if you’re buying for a PtF type , then you’re paying an absolute fortune for loads of paperwork that you do not need .
@ Paul , the OP . Please accept my apologies as this does absolutely nothing to resolve your problem . Although , if you are working through the paint scheme in a modular fashion , then it’s not unrealistic [for the covered-in sections at least] to use different manufacturer sources .
I believe that Mike is one of them RV’er type blokes . So he may well have some good advice there somewhere . Let’s face it , out of the millions of RV’s on the UK register , how often do you see a scruffy one ...

Do you just clean/degrease/scotchbrite the surface and use this etch? Does any other coat have to go on top of the Tetrosyl if using it to prime the interior structures - empennage etc. Thanks

If you go onto the REACH website you can register as a ' downstream user. I've got no idea who came up with that one either!
You'll get a registration number just quote that with your order and you'll be good to go.
REACH is designed for industrial use/consumption of chemicals just keep ticking the box that is 'less than 1 tonne per year consumption ' and you won't get a bill.
John.

The prep for Tetrosyl is as simple as that.
Scuff up with maroon Scotch, panel wipe and spray.
Once applied as an interior primer, that is it, it is a good quality basic primer that will significantly enhance the corrosion proofing that Alclad already has.
On the outside, it needs a build primer over it as it is basically an etch product to key the base structure to the finish coatings. I always suggest that before you use it externally, you consult your painter to see if it is compatible with his paint scheme chemistry as opinions vary
Additionally, I would also suggest that once finished, painted and flying, you apply a mist of ACF50 or Corrosion X through the inside to belt and brace the interior protection.

Mike, can you clarify which Tetrosyl product you are talking about?
They seem to do
1 part Etch Primer
1 Part Etch primer that requires 'Activated Thinner'
2k Etch Primer
Depending on where you look they are described differently, but are possibly all the same product. Stock also seems to be an issue.

I have used these people a couple of times. Available in 5ltr and 1ltr
You need both, they mix 50/50. i put a splash of celly in as well to help it through the gun.

Thanks Mike,
I am going to try some, but note that you need positive pressure clean air feed to your mask. This may put off quite a few people.
Do you have a reccomended mask?
