BTH to electronic?

Post by ROB. THOMASSON » Sat Jul 25, 2020 10:52 am

Has anyone investigated converting one of their BTH magnetos to electronic ignition? I've seen a Pitts with 1 mag and one electronic system so there is a precedent. I'm not finding BTH to be that reliable despite having them professionally rebuild more than once by different suppliers.

I though E-Mags(and P-Mags) and similar systems were quite common?

I can't find anything that says they will fit the BTH system. Could you post me a link?

I haven't got a clue what a BTH system is. Use of TLSs without expanding them on first use should be banned. :)

I need a setup where a BTH mag was in a 4 cylinder vehicle of some kind that was positive earth. (Tractor perhaps?) That way I can buy a kit without the supplier having a wobbly as soon as I mention aircraft! Anyone on here into classic vehicles?

A slight change of plans and I am trying to do a trigger setup from scratch. I need to borrow an AG4 or SA4 magneto for testing if anyone can help. You will get it back undamaged and it does not need to be serviceable I could also use a spare earthing cap if anyone has a gash one.
