Electrical connector for T&S

Post by Nick Allen » Thu Mar 03, 2022 4:21 pm

Does anyone know what type of connector I need for this T&S? (And where I can get one from...?)

That looks like something I used to know as a 'Plessey plug'. I think they are obsolete now.

You could trawl the Souriau and Amphenol website catalogues to find one with the correct orientation, pin size, and shell size. That should while away a few hours followed by a trip to A&E when you find out how expensive they are!

Alternatives:
1. mil surplus scrap electronics shop (do these still exist?)
2. get appropriately sized sockets to fit those pins (I may be able to help) crimp on some flying leads and epoxy putty them into the instrument. Add a terminating connector of your choice.
3. ebay? but only if you have lost the will to live.

Good hunting.

Thanks, Jim. I did have a quick web trawl, but nothing leapt out as an obvious fit. Plan B, if I can't find a connector, is to remove cover, drill small hole, fit a grommet, and solder flying leads directly onto the terminals within. (The cover comes off straightforwardly and the terminals are just sitting there in a usefully accessible location.)

Hi Ian, your photo prompted me to look closer if there was anything stamped on the socket itself -- concealed under a rubber gasket, which I hadn't looked beneath before, was "Amphenol" and "7-8262", which hopefully will get me closer to finding a suitable plug!

Nick, it could be MS3106A-10SL-3S Aircraft Spruce list it as the connector for RC Allen T&S

You can get them from HM

Thanks, Ian. I think I've found one on eBay for a third of that, but useful to know as a fallback option!
