The problem there is that the majority of glider trailers house a glider, generally pretty valuable
True, but I reckon most big gliding clubs will have trailers lying around whose occupants have bitten the dust. You could try giving John Giddins a ring -- he's chief instructor at the Hinton Gliding Club (not too far from MK!), and has a workshop at the Bicester Gliding Club (he's an LAA inspector too: contact details here

I moved my Jodel 1050 (it's a big one) in the back of a 7.5 tonne truck all in one go. You just need to be a bit creative.... There was a fair bit of wing hanging out of the back though.
