Yellow through orange to red increase the contrast. Think Black and White Photographic filters. However our vision is not B+W so severe colour distortion occurs. i.e if you wear orange/red lens colours you won't see red/orange/brown on your map etc However you may spot that other aircraft sooner in clag.
Other trades, train drivers for one, are restricted to grey tint. As far as I know reflections have nothing to do with the choice of colour.

Interesting point from Ron. Given the various answers the question needed asking. Has anyone who only needs near vision glasses used a company called Grett Optik? Based in Devon, they advertise a pair of normal sunglasses (various tints including grey) wth the bottom quarter segment a clear reading lens.
