If you tried to ring for information there was no answer. I would have thought that it is incumbent on the instigator of the NOTAM to ensure that where a telephone number is given it is manned.

Re: NOTAMS
That is a really useful rant. I am presently working with other GA people on the Class G/S&RA part of the Future Airspace Strategy. Our President took the directors of the CAA to task for not giving S&RA enough consideration in the FAS which was entirely focussed on commercial operations. As a result there is a new working group dealing with our interest and I am looking at things - policies or strategies - that would make our operations more efficient.
On my list is the provision of an information and crossing service for all segregated airspace and all NOTAMed activities which imply avoidance. It should be active throughout the notammed period.
Moreover Notamming this activity for 18 days when it clearly is only going to be in use sporadically is outrageous. Is it really H24?
Anybody have any other views on this before I go to DAP with it?

Re: NOTAMS
Hi John,
This one was mentioned at out LAA strut meeting to to a rep from the Oxfordshire AIAA users. So it may be worthwhile having a chat with them. Not sure if there is an official contact, but I do have a few names. PM me if you want extra details.
It was also pointed out that by one of our members that half the cone would never get used on any given day as the parachutists cannot travel far down wind. Quite how this would be NOTAMed would be anyone's guess. An inverted cone is bad enough!

John
I am involved in the organization side of gliding competitions and during some of last years competitions I spent the entire period of the competition attempting to contact the originator of the NOTAM with no success. There was not even voice mail on the numbers. I spoke to AUS who had no further contact information than that published in the body of the NOTAM. As you might imagine the area defined up to FL100 takes out a very large area of Class G airspace. Anything you can do to make NOTAM sponsers more responsive to queries would be good
