Hi All,

Perhaps someone could advise on what I need to do.

I have very recently purchased a Jabiru UL-450 year 2000. Currently this is in the Microlight category so any hours I fly do not contribute to my EASA PPL re-validation.

I am told that if I change the aircraft in to the Group A category then all my hours will count. I have found the form on here and it seems a simple form to fill in and it seems I just send that and £135 to the LAA and they will change the category.

Before I do that, I have a few questions.

What else will be affected by changing it from the Microlight category to the Group A category. Is there anything I should be aware of that will substantially change. The form asks a question on changes made to be able to put it in the new category. It does have a comment saying that usually changes will be required.

One of the options on the form is to have the MTOW increased with the application. Is this possible on the Jabiru or is 450KG the only weight that is approved for that aircraft no matter what category it is in. I guess it is intended just to be at 450KG by the name itself (UL-450) but I have heard of cases with other aircrafts where that weight limits have been increased and were only restricted to 450KG so they could get in to the microlight category.

Any help would be much appreciated.
