Humber Gateway TMZ

Post by tony57brown » Thu Apr 03, 2014 4:38 pm

This transponder zone has just recently appeared on the SkyDemon maps as a Mandatory Zone from the surface to FL 100. It is centered just off Withernsea / Spurn Point and covers a substantial land area of East Yorkshire and N.E. Lincs. This includes North Coates where I am based.
The TMZ according to everything I have seen should not cover any land at all ! It will certainly put off some visiting aircraft to North Coates and has left a number of us "scratching our heads".
I e.mailed both Sky Demon and someone at the CAA reporting what I believe and hope is an error a few days ago but have had no response whatsoever.

Help!

I think the problem is that sky demon et al can't do any other than a circle using the largest radius from the centre of the area.
I see that the TMZ is actually offshore running parallel to the coast.
It isn't well publicised is it?

That's Funny,

My AWARE is better than simply plotting big circles as a rule, so I updated it and can't see any ATZ covering Northy Coates ?

It's the new TMZ over the wind farms off the east coast between Spun point and Hornsea Mike.
See the AIP (yellow) Humber Gateway TMZ.
The Wash also has one.

Thanks Alan,

But I'm stil confused having re-updated AWARE this morning there's no indication of a no go zone. Either it's not important or someone's not revealing all ?

Added 1500 hrs.
Have re-updated my AWARE and this time it does show a darned great TMZone affecting North Coates. Their wording says:
THE ESTABLISHMENT OF TWO TRANSPONDER MANDATORY ZONES (TMZ) HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY. THE FIRST OF THESE, THE HUMBER GATEWAY TMZ, WILL COME INTO PERMANENT EFFECT ON 1 MAY 2014 (AIRAC AMDT 05/2014). AIC 017/2014 REFERS. 20 MAR 00:00 2014 UNTIL 01 MAY 00:00 2014. Just to be clear, the NOTAM depicted on Skydemon is just an advance notice that the OFFSHORE TMZs will be coming into effect. The area covered by that NOTAM is a large circle but that is not the actual area of the TMZs. If you read the NOTAM it is clear that this is just a notice not an exclusion.
