Advice on new strobes

Post by faramog » Wed Nov 12, 2014 12:58 pm

I would like to fit tome strobes but am not sure about the traditional higher power (12v 0.5+ A) things due to the potential interference. Seems newer LED ones are much lower electrical power and potentially just as bright.

I don't fly fast (cira 65mph).

Any advice (also needs to be approvable by LAA

I have also looked into strobes for a new project but have come to the conclusion that the quality and brightness of some of the LED strobes around makes them not worth having.
This company I believe make good quality and bright strobes, not cheap though:-

Personally I may go with traditional strobes..aka of the type Airworld sell ( rebadged Kunzleman) which I have currently on my aircraft and are very bright and have given me good service for the past 6years. I have had no problems with the strobe box( weighs very little) and I have not had interference issues either.
Airworld also do a LED version but it is not as bright as the traditional type.

Hi Graham, if you are flying a type that is not unique then it would be worth asking LAA Engineering if they have details of any mods where others have fitted strobes to the same type. You won't then have to re-invent the wheel, plus it will speed up approval if you copy an existing mod.
