RUSTY WAUGHMAN DFC AND ARTHUR ORD-HUME CONFIRMED AS GUEST SPEAKERS AT LAA AGM
SATURDAY 22ND OCTOBER 2016, THE CIRRUS SUITE, SYWELL AERODROME, NORTHANTS
MORE THAN ‘JUST’ AN AGM!
The actual AGM commences at 14:30, but it forms only part of a full day’s activity for LAA members.
It is worth coming for our guest speakers alone. Arthur Hume at 11.30am, will tell us tales from the earliest days of the Association when he built and flew aircraft including Luton Minor G-AFIR an aircraft which helped ‘kick-start’ the post-war homebuilt movement and Druine Turbi, with the highly appropriately registered, G-APFA!
Just ahead of the AGM in the early afternoon, Rusty Waughman DFC will give us a first-hand view of a Lancaster pilot’s war. Rusty was aged just 20 when he flew his first mission with 101 Special Duties Squadron, the unit which suffered the highest casualty rate in Bomber Command. As those who heard Rusty speak at LAA HQ recently will testify, his presentation is set to be one of the highlights of the day.
During the lunch interval too, there will be a chance for Members to ‘get up close’ for a show and tell with a selection of LAA aircraft, including the Sling 4 aircraft that was built in just seven days in September, at the LAA Rally.
We note that the Aviator Hotel is also hosting the Beagle Pup and Bulldog Club AGM. So that we can accommodate those who are members of both clubs, we’ve agreed that they will hold their AGM in the morning, while we’ll have our meeting in the afternoon.
Rally and service awards
For the first time we will be presenting the owners of the prize-winning aircraft at the 2016 LAA Rally with their trophies at the AGM. This allowed us to judge aircraft on all three days of that event rather than just the Friday and the Saturday morning.
Just ahead of the main business of the day, we’ll have the presentation of LAA Service Awards to some of those volunteers who have served the Association so well. Have you made your nominations yet? If not please contact our awards team at LAA HQ right away!
We’re hosting the AGM on an airfield - so come on in and use it! As with last year, landings will be free for LAA members, paid for by the LAA so long as you have informed Sywell that you are attending the LAA AGM when you book your PPR. If you are coming by road there are directions on the Sywell website or you can use the postcode NN6 0BN in your car's satnav.
The programme for the day will be:
10:00 Tea/coffee
10:45 Welcome from Brian Davies, LAA Chairman
11:00 Presentation of 2016 LAA Rally Awards
11.30 Guest speaker: Arthur W. G. Ord-Hume. The Early Days of the PFA.
12:00 Lunch (not provided but bar snacks available in the Aviator or Pilot's Mess cafe)
12:30 'Show and Tell' around selected LAA aircraft on the airfield
13:00 Presentation of LAA Service awards
13:30 Guest Speaker: Flt Lt Rusty Waughman DFC.
14:30 Annual General Meeting
15:00 Members' Forum. An opportunity for members to discuss issues and ideas with the Board
16:00 Thanks and closure of the meeting.

Re: RUSTY WAUGHMAN DFC AND ARTHUR ORD-HUME: AGM GUEST SPEAKE
Due to the record number of attendee's at the AGM, many people , myself included , had difficulty in hearing Rusty speaking. So, if you were one of the unfortunates in the 'standing room only ' area, there is now the opportunity to see [and hear] Rusty speaking on a link on the homepage .
If you weren't at the AGM , then put aside 1hr 6mins and 47secs of your life and marvel at his incredible story.
P.S. Is there any chance of adding in Arthur Ord-Hume's equally amazing talk ?

Thanks for the video link.
I too flew in to hear 'Rusty' talk but being wx belated & at the back I could hardly discern more than a few syllables and from where apart from marvelling at his vigour, I caught little of substance.
That omission was fortunately remedied by Steve's announcement here today and I was able to spend a fascinated hour watching and hearing it all properly.
A very apt day too, it following the 11th day of the 11th month and one day before Remembrance Sunday.
Thanks again,
mike.
p.s. I also wanted to be there for the most significant "people's vote "and sorrowfully learnt despite the importance of the motion that the bulk of the attendees apparently hadn't even bothered to do their homework.
Under our Chairman's masterly politeness in handling such an unusual and tricky subject the matter was never-the-less quite correctly dealt with.
For that proxy vote and successful result, I am deeply grateful and remain proud of our LAA fellowship.
