CAA PUBLISHES CRITERIA FOR 8.33 RADIO FUNDING

Post by SteveSlater » Fri Dec 23, 2016 10:23 am

The CAA has announced today that they have published the criteria for users to confirm they are eligible to claim the 20% rebate against the cost of fitting an 8.33kHz spacing radio. The CAA has received EU funding for this, to help offset the cost of the mandatory fitment of these units, which will be required by January 2018.

On 1 January 2018 all aircraft operating in airspace that requires the carriage of a radio must have 8.33 kHz-compatible equipment fitted and operational. After this date 25kHz radios can no longer be used, unless specifically exempted for a particular channel such as the emergency frequency 121.5MHz. This means that all General Aviation (GA) aircraft must comply with this change to UK law to maintain safe communications with ground stations.

Users can’t yet apply for the rebate, as the application form is still being developed, but the GA Unit hopes to publish this early in the new year – we’ll let you know when it’s live.

The criteria has been published at: www.caa.co.uk/CAP1501

And this web page has been updated with a link: http://www.caa.co.uk/General-aviation/A ... Hz-radios/
