Airspace Aware ( for Android )

Post by Ian Law » Sat Oct 09, 2021 12:38 pm

From recent web searches it appears the Aware GPS and related software may no longer be available.

If this is the case, are there any similar alternatives that might run on a suitable smartphone ( with which I am completely unfamiliar ... ) or a small "SatNav" type device, perhaps? Only the basics are needed as a back up for map/compass/watch.

Thanks in anticipation!

EVFR Basic is affectively an Aware app for a mobile phone. It's free, as are the airspace updates that go with it.
A paid-for upgrade is possible, which offers more navigational features.

Many thanks Duncan. Exactly what I need to know.

I just need to buy a basic smart phone with a GPS, I believe and an Android system.

Regards.

It doesn't have to be Android, but you are more likely to find a budget Android phone or tablet.

Many thanks Ian and I'll start looking for something suitable.

Apart from the convenience of having Airspace Aware I am unlikely to use a smart phone enough to justify having one. A small screen satnav that could run the Aware software would probably be a much better option and use less battery life, but so far I haven't been able to resolve this.
Thanks again.

You can pick up a second hand smartphone for peanuts. In fact I have a few lying around the house here used for various apps and with no simcards in.

If you fly enough to warrant having Skydemon you would then have the perfect combination. Up to date charts, flight planning etc.

Many thanks Sean and that could be the solution for me and well worth a few peanuts!
