Use of Vertical Power PPS with Rotax

Post by widdzy » Thu Dec 19, 2024 12:43 am

Hi All,

I'm currently considering incorporating the Vertical Power PPS system into an LAA build using the Rotax 912ULS engine.

The PPS is an entirely new approach to the master, starter, and charging circuit on experimental aircraft. It combines the functions of multiple high-current, electro-mechanical components into a single, solid-state device with plug-and-play simplicity.

Is there anyone with prior experience out there that can comment on the usefullness and compatibility of this technology with Rotax engines.

Regards,

Widdzy

An entirely new and very expensive alternative to a couple of solenoids ..., which are also pretty much plug and play!
It pays to critically examine the advertising copy to determine if they are really providing a valuable product.
What are the alternatives, how much would they cost and what drawbacks when compared to the PPS box?
How does the PPS work, does it use electronic hardware and software to take the place of a couple of simple electro-mechanical switches (I don't know)? Also consider how the box might fail, its track record, and what features might be required if it does fail.
I don't see any reason it would not be compatible with a Rotax but will it provide a worthwhile enhancement?
For £1600 it would have to do an awful lot of enhancement to persuade me of its worth.

But its your aeroplane, so fit what seems reasonable to you.
