The following was copied from the RV forum. Although I seldom fly abroad it does somewhat worry me as the CAA move further away from accepted European practices in charging.
Is this something the LAA are or should be actively trying to counter?
""Your following email regarding the subject matter has been passed to
me for action. I apologise for the late reply. If your aircraft meets
the requirements of CAA Airworthiness Notice No 52 - Flight in UK Air
Space of Foreign Registered Home-Built Aircraft, you may advise us of
your flights under that Notice.
The attached link give further information on this matter:
http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid ... ageid=8129
If your aircraft is factory built and is flying on non ICAO standard
documents the CAA will require to see and accept the following
documentation before issuing an Exemption regarding the documents for
flight in UK airspace.
1) A copy of the Certificate of Registration for the aircraft issued
by the State of Registry.
2) A copy of a valid Permit to Fly/Certificate of Airworthiness (both
sides) issued by the State of Registry plus a copy of a Certificate of
Validity/Operating Limitations if issued with the document.
3) Insurance documentation for the aircraft which must show compliance
with EC Regulation 785/2004.
The UK CAA requires about 5 days notice to issue an Exemption which is
only valid for 28 days in any 12 month period. The above documents
should be emailed to [email protected] or faxed to +44 1293 573860
marked for the attention of the Technical Standards Section. Please
note we will require a return fax number or email address for the
Exemption to be sent to.
The UK CAA now charges £51 for each Exemption issued. So that the
charge can be collected would you please complete the form which can
be found at the following web link.

Thanks for the 'heads up' Merlin.
Yes LAA actively working on this one for several weeks.
John Brady and Roger Hopkinson leading the working group with myself getting in the way.
Letters have gone back and forth with CAA. Still in the 'diplomatic' stage.
We're not at all happy about our overseas colleagues being charged £51 and the associated hassle. It'll pretty much stop visits in our opinion. Then the reciprocal charges will start...
It would seem that CAA is looking to ever more inventive ways of generating cash. Please always advise us of other instances of charges being introduced.
