Re Zenair 701

Nick,

You're very welcome ! Give me a call on 07979 001153. I'm at the a/c on Fri. next to do a 100 hr service. Given time and decent weather, we could have a bit of a run. If not, maybe next week.

Regards,
John Green

Czech Sport Aircraft still manufactures and supply parts for the 601 / 701 aircraft, so if you need exhausts etc. then they are in good supply.

Ben

Zenair 601/701

Ben,

Thanks for that info. It is though, at odds with my understanding of the situation vis a vis Zenair and the Czech Aircraft Works. I understood that, there had been, some two years ago, a parting of the ways, so far as the commercial relationship of the two was concerned.

Just a year ago, I contacted CAW to get some paint part numbers or codes and to enquire generally about the availability of spares but was given a very indifferent reception, so haven't bothered since.

My appeal to owners/operators of this very remarkable a/c, the Zenair 701, was based on the prospect of finding sufficient numbers to establish a Southern England based group and hold regular fly-ins. There are approximately 30 701s shown on G-INFO, with perhaps an equal number as yet unregistered, in various build stages.

It is true that CSA used to manufacture the entire aircraft for Zenair in Europe, and that this has been discontinued. However, the company continues to service and maintain the aircraft - there are often 701's etc in the factory being serviced or repaired etc - it works out economic to do this & the skill base & experience is strong. Parts like exhausts are still manufactured, but most are probably distributed by other firms (eg catalgue operators etc.).

Sometimes communications with eastern europe can be tricky due to differences in languages and culture, so sorry to hear if you didn't have the greatest of experience with the old firm. If there's anything you need let us know (or Brian as he's more engineering), and we can see if we can source it efficiently.

Best of luck in organising a 701 Flyin - I'm sure that would be quite a gathering. Are you active on the Zenair Ning Forum? http://zenair.ning.com This seems to cover most operators of the type.

Regards
Ben

Hello John,

In reply to your original question, I own an incomplete plans built 701-ul in the West Midlands, G-ZENA. Work commitments are slowing the build at present, however I intend to have it in the air by 2011, to coincide with my retirement :). I think fly ins/gatherings for Zenith aircraft owners a good idea, I'll certainly pop down South when mine is built.

Regards, Andrew.

Andrew,

Thanks for that. Which engine will you be using? How are your dealings with Zenair? I've found them pretty good with info but slow. Which year was your kit manufactured? If you're anywhere near a strip, I'll bring my 701 up. Here's my e-mail: [email protected]
