Airside access at Sywell fly-in
Moderators: John Dean, Moderator
It is obvious to all and sundry from the Sywell website that they are still promoting the fly-in as a LAA event.."book now""
With regard to my earlier post, LAA needs to clarify this position with immediate effect by some sort of " press release" if they are to stand any chance of distancing themselve from any potential litigation.

all those driving in ..................................... need escorting as well!
They are going to need one hell of a lot of escorts!!!
Obviously the only real way to minimise the risk is to cancel the event!

Welshman, the point has been made and no doubt noted by the office. but the fact that our logo is on Sywell's advertising matters not to me, I certainly won't be losing any sleep over it, so suggest you don't either. All I know is that we have to have a slot time so I have one, and airside access is via escorted groups. I cannot change that and nor can anybody else, so keeping going round and around the same stupid arguments wont get anybody anywhere. I'm going to Sywell, and I have no doubt it will be a great weekend. If those with so much to say on here don't want to go then fair enough, don't go. Just give us a break form the whinging, negativity and downright rudeness for a while.

Mr Hope,
That, to me, sounds like a very patronising remark. Welshman and others are not happy about the situation pertaining to the Rally and Sywell. Surely the LAA is a democratic oganisation in which ALL members are entitled to express their views?

I submit that these a hardly helpful remarks from someone who enjoys a position of some influence within the LAA.

I think this has been done to death now. It appears to me that LAA members don't like the slots/ airside access. I agree, but as it's " Sywell revisited" nothing can be done. However it does seem that the great unwashed on looking at the website will naturally assume the LAA are actively involved. On that point I would personally like to ask the executive to contact Sywell for removal or revision of our involvement. On the point of "next years LAA rally" I reckon the powers that be have noted our concerns over slots and airside access and are even now discussing the matter before announcing next years extravaganza in the near future. Well ok maybe not, but hope they get my point. See you there Brian and Rod and everyone else who says they are going and even some of those who say they aren't. As for regional rallies having a minimum criteria, gets my vote too.
Brian, I am posting this to put the public record straight. As you know ,better than most, I am actively trying to bring about a rally next year and working behind the scenes to make this happen.
I am also planning to go to Sywell, despite my despair at some of their decisions.
However this is not the point, I am not wingeing when I say this, and despite "being done to death" SYWELL ARE STILL ADVERTISING A LAA RALLY.
YOUR blase remark that it cannot be changed and doesn't matter a jot to you is unacceptable, either as a member, or more so as an influential member. Yes you have the right to free speech and your own opinion just like any other member but I want to ask you a simple question.
As a very influential member of the LAA can you give me a written assurance that If their is any major accident at Sywell ,the LAA's name will not be dragged through the press in conjunction with this event?
I welcome your reply, and that of any EC member or LAA staff.
I think it is your attitude that is rude, not mine!
