You may have been aware of a potential problem and been asked for a donation but the LAA EC had not then sought legal advice about a possible merger. As I understand it, that advice is "that it would not be in the interests of the members of either association to merge until the matter is resolved."

We have an excellent and hardworking EC and CE; they seem to have these matters well in hand on our behalf. Sensible planning is going ahead but my understanding from reading the responses is that no contracts are being let or irrevocable decisions taken until matters are clarified and the financial position allows. Just what we'd expect from such a competent team.

Harry - You might understand these things as perhaps you are privy to information that members aren't.
I have in the past asked for EC minutes to be published - they even started to be (albeit abbreviated) but no more I think.
I would welcome some openness from our leaders.

I'm guessing that since legal fees rarely seem to be trivial, quite a bit has been spent to support the planning applications and appeals.

Does that make it better to go on if wise counsel says no, or to proceed just because the economy slowing down means builders will be "2 a penny"?

Will knowing the sum already spent help make the right decision for the future, or make any future plans cheaper?

I'm happy to leave this sort of decision to those charged with making it; that's why I pay a subscription.

I too, like Merlin, would be pleased to know more about EC-discussed issues - too much in the past has come as a complete surprise, leading to no chance for EC to be alerted to a poor decision before it is too late.
